Definitions to Help You Plan Your Event
A seated dinner (or luncheon) is an event with assigned seating, the meal is plated and served by waiters. Seated dinners are perfect for formal occasions such as weddings, wine dinners, fundraising galas, and awards ceremonies.
A seated buffet is an event with tables and place settings for all guests present. Sometimes they are referred to as a buffet “with available seating,” which means guests use existing seating at the event site. The food offered is typically fork friendly, meaning it does not require a knife.
Cocktail buffets serve food considered finger friendly, and are often preceded by, or in conjunction with, passed hors d’oeuvres. A cocktail buffet usually proves substantial enough to serve as a meal.
Cocktail receptions consist of passed hors d’oeuvres and/or finger foods displayed on a table. This type of event usually precedes a meal elsewhere.
A tea, lunch, or brunch menu can be created for both seated or buffet-style events.
